Your Betrayal - Chapter 4
Afternoon all! I've just finished Chapter 5 and about to start writing Chapter 6, so I thought I'm on the right track. I know how frustrating it is to wait for fic updates, so here's the next chapter of Your Betrayal! Enjoy! XD

“You were where?!” Meiko screamed in disbelief, staring angrily down at her older sister.

“Meiko, please, don’t yell at me,” came Ayaka’s timid voice, a voice full of pleading. “I can’t trust him yet, but I can’t live without him either.”

“You’re being such an idiot, Ayaka,” Meiko muttered, but she looked tired and defeated. “I can’t be mad at you, but I really think you’re making a mistake. You have no idea.”

Ayaka’s eyes darted up to meet her sisters’. They were clouded over, something different hiding in them. She grew confused, watching as her sister shook her head and made her way to the kitchen.

“I’ve made dinner,” Meiko called over to her. “I’ll be dishing it up in about five minutes, so go wash up.”

“Thanks for taking such good care of me,” Ayaka remarked before disappearing into her bedroom.

“It seems that’s all I’ve been doing lately,” Meiko muttered under her breath, sounding bitter about her sister for the first time in a long time.

By the time Ayaka had reappeared, Meiko had set the table and placed both plates of food down.

“This looks delicious, Meiko,” Ayaka exclaimed happily as she began to eat.

“I try,” came Meiko’s casual reply.

Ayaka eyed her sister worriedly as she began eating as well.

“Meiko, I really don’t want you to be mad at me. I just want you to be happy for me.”

“I am, Ayaka,” she answered. “Don’t for one minute think I’m not. But please don’t get yourself hurt.”

“I promise I won’t.”

Ayaka sensed she had been forgiven, but the rest of dinner was eaten in silence.

The next morning, Meiko headed off to work as usual, and Ayaka decided to visit Kei on her day off. She had been so excited when he’d called and asked if she would join him for lunch on his break. As she got ready, she couldn’t help but feel nervous, as if this was their first date. Well, technically it was. They had planned to start afresh, hadn’t they?

Around midday, Ayaka locked up the apartment and made her way to the elevator. She was disappointed to find an ‘OUT OF SERVICE’ sign taped to the wall beside it. She turned away and opened the door to the stairwell. It was cramped and stuffy inside the stair well, so she began to walk briskly down the stairs. As she reached the fourth floor, she heard a door behind her open and close. Someone’s just figured out the elevator’s broken, she thought, and continued on her way. Suddenly, she heard the footsteps pick up speed, and she turned to see if they wanted her attention. As she turned, she gasped to see a figure clad in black approach her swiftly and push her roughly. She let out a small scream as she began tumbling down the stairs. Her shoes slipped off as she reached the bottom of the landing and struck her head on the concrete landing, her world instantly fading to black.

“Ayaka, wake up!” came a desperate voice, which she soon recognised to be Meiko’s. Meiko’s tears had caused her makeup to run, and she looked a mess.

“Thank god,” she exclaimed in relief when she saw Ayaka’s eyes flutter open. In the corner of the room stood Kei, a solemn look on his face.

“What happened?” Ayaka asked, her throat feeling cracked and dry.

“You fell down a flight of stairs at our apartment building and hit your head,” Meiko sobbed, blowing her nose with a tissue.

“I really have to stop being so accident prone,” Ayaka teased, trying to smile, but suddenly something clicked and she sat up swiftly. She moaned and went to fall back but Kei rushed over and caught her in his arms. Ayaka looked up at him thankfully as he placed her down on the pillow again.

“Someone pushed me, Meiko,” she explained, as her hand found its way into Kei’s.

Meiko’s gaze shifted from their intertwined hands to Ayaka’s face. “Someone pushed you? But why would they do that?”

“I don’t know. Maybe they were in a hurry to get down the stairs and I was unfortunately in the way. I don’t know anyone who would do it deliberately.”

Suddenly, a nurse entered the room and took a look at Ayaka’s chart before looking up and smiling kindly.

“Miss Matsuyama, the doctor’s taken all the necessary tests and you’ll be pleased to know you’ve been left with no major injuries. You’re a very lucky woman.”

“Thank you nurse,” she replied, closing her eyes in relief. “When can I leave?”

“We just need you to fill out some forms, and you’re free to go whenever you’re ready.” With that, the nurse left a clipboard and pen on the bed and exited the room.

“Thank goodness,” Meiko muttered, before taking up the clipboard and pen. “I’ll fill these out for you, Ayaka. I brought some things from home, so you can go and get changed if you want.”

“Thanks,” Ayaka replied. Kei gripped her hand tighter as she staggered slightly, trying to get out of bed.

“I’m here,” came his soothing voice as her free hand reached up to grip his shoulder firmly.

“I feel so dizzy,” she complained, drawing an amused laugh from Kei.

“Don’t fall down again; we don’t need you getting straight back into that bed. I had to cancel our date because of this,” he whined, a mock-disappointed look appearing on his face.

“Well, I’ll have to make it up to you,” Ayaka teased. “How about tonight?”

“Sounds good. Now, go get changed so we can all get out of here.”

As the door to the bathroom closed, Kei sat down on the bed and put his head in his hands, sighing deeply.

“This is a mistake,” Meiko whispered angrily, not taking her eyes off the clipboard.

“I love her, Meiko,” he whispered back, refusing to look her way.

“I’m so sure you do. If Ayaka was to know what you were doing all those months that you were alone...”

“I wouldn’t,” he said, cutting her off with a dangerous look. “I was lonely, and I’d been hurt. But now I have her again, and I’m not giving her up. It will kill her if you mention anything, so don’t.”

“I’ve got nothing to lose,” she mumbled threateningly.

“Yes you do. And you know it.”

A pained look flashed in Meiko’s eyes as she stared at him. As the bathroom door opened, Meiko swiftly went back to finishing the forms and Kei stood up to take Ayaka by the arms.

“Can we go now? I want to go home and rest,” Ayaka complained. “I have to be ready for our date tonight.”

Kei held Ayaka to him as Meiko stood up, collecting Ayaka’s bag. “Let’s go then. I just have to hand these to the nurses’ station before we leave.”

Meiko let Kei and Ayaka leave the room first, before closing the door to the room. She focused an intense glare on Kei, thinking about what he’d said in the hospital room.

Yes you do. And you know it.

She hated that he was right. She didn’t want Ayaka to be with him. She didn’t want her to get hurt again. No, she couldn’t let it happen. But she didn’t want to be the one to hurt her. And she hated that now it was all on her shoulders.

If only you weren’t so stupid, I could have saved you.

The next chapter should be up in about an hour or two. Chapter 6 should be up by tonight. I'm getting into this fic, so I hope anyone who decides to take the time to read it starts to enjoy it as well! :)
P.S. If the chapters are too long or too short, if you wanna give me some feedback then I'll be happy to add more to the chapters or reduce them. However, I personally love long chapters, you can put so much more detail in!
